C&W Offshore Ltd was awarded an engineering, procurement and fabrication contract by WorleyParsons Canada and ExxonMobil Canada Properties for the Hebron Helideck in the 3rd quarter of 2013. The helideck consisted of 2 main aluminum bolted structures, the landing and parking area, that when outfitted weighted 104 tons and has over 15,000 structural bolts. The landing area is a 23.5 meter octagon with a depth of 5 meters. The parking area is 16 x 8.5 x 5 meter structure that allows the operator to support helideck operations and park an S92 Sikorsky if required. C&W Offshore Ltd issued a subcontract to Bayards Aluminum from the Netherlands for the structural design of the Helideck and the procurement and processing of aluminum materials. Bayards is one of the world’s leading designers of aluminum structures including helidecks, stair towers and yacht hulls and superstructures. In order to provide the maximum benefit to the local industry through transfer of knowledge and work experience Bayards mobilized various personnel to Newfoundland over the course of the project, including design engineers, CNC operators and construction supervisors.
A helideck requires a lot of equipment and support services to meet offshore requires and as part of the project C&W Offshore designed, fabricated and outfitted the helideck with free issued and procured safety equipment including fire monitors and hydrants, non-directional beacon, heli-fuel skid, eye wash station, fire extinguishers, CAP 437 7th Ed compliant lighting (Circle &H), lighting, instrumentation and telecoms. Piping fabrication scopes included carbon, stainless, duplex and super duplex materials.
The helideck was designed and fabricated to meet CAP 437 specifications, CNLOPB guidelines, CSA certification and DNV GL approval. The project was complete in November of 2015 with transfer to client and loadout via SPMT’s in January of 2016.
